I’m loving it , smells okay but tastes good

With only water this tastes like bitter paracetamol dissolving in your mouth. It’s terrible. You need to overpower the tea leaves using honey or milk or sugar.

I bought two of these, one for my home and other for my boyfriend’s sister. The taste is quite strong and the fragrance was quite authentic. It’s perfect for gifting. The packaging is really very cute. It’s a good alternative no swap your regular tea with this herbal option. Would definitely give a thumbs up for this one!!

Hibiscus tea isn’t that popular. I mean, you can’t find many top brands offering it as tea bags as you do for, say, Chamomile, Peppermint, etc. And for good reason: the taste is atrocious! I have no doubt now that the Hibiscus flower is the best source of Vitamin C as it tastes sour (khatta) beyond tolerance. 😂
Why did I buy this thing, then? Well, I drink Chamomile tea regularly and wanted to add some variety to my collection. Also, I could use the health benefits it offers: blood-sugar control, blood-pressure control, anxiety relief, etc. I do think the anxiety relief offered by Hibiscus is on par with the effects of Chamomile, so for me it’s a super-flower of sorts.
Now, a few more important questions answered honestly:
Q. Why did I buy from Tea Trunk?
A. Honestly, it was a random decision. My only two criteria were: 1) Don’t try to find something cheap, and 2) Make sure the company/product has plenty of nice labels such as “non-GMO”, “organic”, “ABC-certified”, etc. This makes me feel safe in my purchase, because the average Joe is not a tea sourcing and food standards expert. For all I know, Tea Trunk might be shoving in packets the flowers commonly found in public parks raised over sewer water! But, these many labels and the high price makes me feel safe. 😬
Q. Why did I rate 5 stars?
A. Simply because I was expecting nothing huge (I’m a sensible guy!) and I got nothing huge in return. Just a packet of dried flowers that produce red color on brewing. There was no reason for disappointment, so take your five stars. 🤷🏻♂️
Brewing instructions: I pity the souls who added 5-6 petals in a single cup to arrive at a nice, deep-red color. In my added images you’ll see two brewing stages: 1) When the 200-something ml cup is full at 80 degrees and a single whole flower is brewing for a minute, and 2) The same cup after 2 minutes, when the presence of the flower has caused the color to be deepened. Guys, trust me: even digesting the taste produced by a single flower was demoralizing. In the second stage, the taste was so strong that I had to call upon the gods to lend me their strength! 🤣🥳So, don’t be an idiot and try to produce the deepest-red possible. You will always, always lose to the super-flower!
The delivery was also a nice surprise. The order said it’d arrive in 8-10 days but the thing arrived in four days.
More or less that’s all. I’d like to end with another very strong warning on taste: this is not your common, pleasant tea experience. Hibiscus will make you puke, and if not that, it will at least make you reflect on your life’s wrongdoings. I don’ think adding sugar or honey produces a nice result, though I can’t even try because of blood-sugar levels.
All in all, the Tea Trunk folks have done a nice job and given us something to cherish.
